Gilroy Arts & Culture Commission welcomes Maqin “Mac” Gupta

The Gilroy Arts & Culture Commission on March 11 welcomed newly appointed Commissioner Maqin Gupta, who told the panel he moved to the U.S. more than 50 years ago and has lived in Gilroy for over two decades.
Commissioner Maqin Gupta said he has a background in manufacturing specializing in metal finishing and waste-treatment technologies and described volunteer work with kindergarten programs, homeless services and seniors in Gilroy and Morgan Hill. “My name is Maqin Gupta. People call me Mac,” Gupta said, adding he wants to “serve the community as long as we can.”
Chair (role label) and other commissioners praised Gupta’s experience and welcomed his participation in upcoming work-plan items, including events that engage youth and seniors. The commission did not take formal action on the appointment during the meeting; Gupta’s introduction was an opportunity for him to be formally welcomed and for commissioners to outline volunteer and event roles.
The commission said staff will circulate opportunities to participate in the commission’s activities and will include Gupta in committee assignments scheduled after upcoming council appointments increase the commission’s membership.
