Mayor Dutre opened the meeting by recognizing personnel and community achievements, starting with the Montclair Police Department’s new hires and promotion. Police Chief Jason Reed introduced two lateral officers, Arad Tatarian and Brandon Burns, and presented Sergeant Anthony Del Rio with his promotion, describing Del Rio’s prior assignments including the Inland Regional Narcotics Enforcement Team and his role as a field‑training officer.
The Community Activities Commission’s vice chair, Darlene Ferrero, presented four military banners to honor recently discharged local service members: Corporal Dan Patrick Benavides (U.S. Marine Corps, Nov. 2020–Nov. 2024); Corporal Alfred Daniel Lopez (U.S. Marine Corps, July 2018–Jan. 2024); Corporal Mario Amado Montalas (U.S. Marine Corps, Nov. 2019–Nov. 2023); and Staff Sergeant Christopher Tanner (U.S. Army, Sept. 2012–Aug. 2024). Ferrero read service details and accepted banners on behalf of honorees or their families when recipients were not present.
The council also recognized Montclair High School’s boys water‑polo program after the team reached its first CIF Division 6 section final. Mayor Pro Tem Martinez called players and Coach Valdez to the dais and the mayor presented a plaque acknowledging the program’s historic season.
These recognitions were ceremonial; no formal council action was required. The mayor noted the presentations were intended to highlight community service, veteran recognition and youth achievement.
