The Lakewood Planning Commission voted on April 1 to amend its rules of procedure to allow task forces to be composed of subject-matter experts and community members as needed and to set a maximum of three planning commission members as task-force liaisons.
Staff explained the change would remove the prior specific cap of five members for task forces and clarified that the scope of task-force work would follow city council direction. "The task forces is what are going to be addressing the natural environment and climate change program that we talked about earlier this evening... the recommendation coming before you is to actually take out a specific number and just have that sentence read, task forces may be composed of subject matter experts and community members as needed, and maximum of 3 members from the planning commission," staff said.
Commission discussion focused on whether planning commission members would be voting members of task forces or act ex officio; staff said that would be determined by each task force. After a motion and second, the commission approved the edits by voice vote.
Next step: the amended rules are in effect for task-force recruitment and will guide the commission's involvement in the natural environment and climate change program and other future task forces.
