Woodford County committee interviews three candidates for road supervisor, transfers interim title

The Courts Committee of the Whole convened a special meeting to complete final interviews for the Woodford County road supervisor position and approved a procedural title change for the current interim employee, the committee chair said.

At the outset, the chair said the special meeting’s purpose was to conduct the final interviews and to prepare a recommendation for the fiscal court, with the fiscal court expected to make a selection by next Tuesday. The chair said, on the county attorney’s recommendation, that state law limits an interim road supervisor to a three-month appointment and that March 18 is the end of that period.

To address that limit, the committee voted to transfer the incumbent’s title from “interim road supervisor” to “interim department head” for the road department. The chair identified the proposed text of the transfer; Squire Scott Gentry was named as the mover and Squire Carl as the seconder. The motion carried with ayes recorded.

The committee then voted to enter executive session to conduct candidate interviews, citing state law regarding closed sessions for personnel interviews. Squire Varner moved to enter executive session, Squire Carl seconded, and the motion carried. The chair stated the executive session was limited to interviews and that the committee did not plan to return with action items.

After the private session, the chair reported that the committee interviewed three candidates and discussed selection procedures and scoring criteria. The chair said there was no action to take out of the executive session at that time. Scott Gentry moved to return the committee to full session; the motion was seconded, carried, and the meeting was adjourned.

No hire was announced at the conclusion of the special meeting; the committee indicated it will supply a recommendation to the fiscal court at its next regular meeting.
