Representatives of the AME Oyster Festival thanked the Tangipahoa Parish Council for long-standing support at the March 9 meeting, introduced festival royalty and previewed multiple events leading up to and during the 50th festival weekend.
A festival representative described recent events — a successful gala and brunch — and the upcoming schedule: a scavenger hunt on Friday, a brunch Saturday morning, participation with the Independence Sicilian Festival, a chili cook-off, and a downtown parade featuring past royalty and about 30 visiting queens from across the state. “This parade is huge,” the representative said, adding that this year’s entry list was among the largest in festival history.
Several youth and volunteer titleholders introduced themselves by name and title: Joni Claire Spatale (2026 Little Miss Amy Oyster Queen), Mackenzie Ray (Junior Miss Amy Oyster Queen), Colby Faith (2026 Deb Miss Amy Oyster Festival queen), Julia Vanmullen (title noted in transcript), Carla Tate (grand marshal), Amy Kent (2026 Pearl), Douglas Kent (2026 King) and Sarah Catherine Stant (visiting queen and past representative). Organizers asked that council members join a group photo and invited the public to festival events.
Council members thanked the festival board and reminded the public that the parish hosts related events throughout the month. The council also promoted the Sicilian Festival that weekend and encouraged attendance. The festival presentation was offered during the public-input portion of the meeting and did not require council action.
