The Tangipahoa Parish Council on March 9 voted to extend by 90 days the temporary moratorium enacted under TP Ordinance 25-43 that halts acceptance and processing of applications governed by Article 9 of Chapter 26.
The extension affects applications related to halfway houses, addictive-disorder treatment facilities, juvenile detention facilities, live-in mental-health facilities, sober-living homes and homeless shelters. A council member said the committee reviewing the item asked for more time to gather information and report back to the Development Review Committee (DRC), and the council voted to grant the requested 90-day extension.
A councilmember explained the extension is intended to allow staff and the committee to complete their work and provide a DRC recommendation before the parish resumes processing any new applications in those categories.
The motion passed on roll call. The council did not adopt substantive changes to the underlying ordinance at this meeting; it extended the temporary pause while review continues. The DRC and planning staff were directed to continue analysis and return with recommendations.
