Grant County awards Tailfeather bridge construction bid and advances graveling project; easements and engineering agreements approved

Grant County commissioners on March 4 adopted a construction bid award for the BRJ-0019(025) 'Tailfeather' bridge replacement, approved property easements needed for the project and advanced a separate graveling project with a preliminary engineering agreement.

Eric Urness of Brosz Engineering met with the board to review bids for the Tailfeather bridge replacement. The board adopted a resolution awarding the construction contract to Young Guns Construction LLC for $4,235,674.09. The minutes state construction costs are subject to the Federal Highway Administration.

The board also approved right-of-way settlements required for the Tailfeather project. The county approved a permanent easement (6.72 acres) and a temporary easement (2.84 acres) for Gary and Kathy Hertz with a settlement payment of $13,038.80, and a permanent easement (6.11 acres) and temporary easement (2.32 acres) for RMB Land LLLP with settlement payment of $10,286.40. Motions to approve the easements and payments were made by Commissioner Marty Meyer and seconded by Chairman Alton Zenker; roll call votes were recorded.

Separately, John Sauber of Sauber Engineering presented a cost estimate for project SC-1927(066) (PCN 24919) to gravel 13.6 miles from the Cannonball River to Highway 21. The minutes note the proposed construction would be subject to an estimated 80/20 funding split. The board authorized moving forward with project bid letting and approved a preliminary engineering agreement with Sauber Engineering not to exceed $15,000 to meet a spring 2026 bid opening.

All engineering and contracting actions were approved by motion of Meyer and second by Zenker, with roll call votes noted in the minutes.
