The court accepted a negotiated plea and sentenced Sharita Deshae Lucas in case 2023CR00224 on Monday.
Per the plea agreement, Lucas pleaded guilty to count 1 (DUI—less safe); count 2 was merged into count 1 and another traffic-related count was entered as no contest. The state presented a factual basis describing a single-vehicle accident on Aug. 20, 2022, officers’ observations of impairment (odor of alcohol, slurred speech, glassy eyes), and a post-arrest blood-alcohol content of 0.148.
The state recommended a 12-month sentence with credit for one day already served, and to probate the balance conditioned on completion of a DUI risk-reduction program, a substance-abuse evaluation and any recommended treatment, 40 hours of community service, random testing, and payment of a $300 fine. The court accepted the plea, ordered the recommended disposition, and noted surcharges would increase the total fine to approximately $500; a separate count drew a $200 fine to run concurrent so total fines would be $298 as described on the record.
The judge admonished Lucas about probation reporting obligations and placed her into a probation breakout with the court’s probation expert to review next steps, warning that failure to report is a common source of rearrest. Counsel for the defense indicated readiness to review license implications and to further explain post-plea administrative steps.
The court closed that calendar item after confirming entry of the plea and completion of paperwork.
