The General Capital Projects Fund amendment (Resolution 022326019) was introduced to cover the purchase and installation of replacement units. County staff reported that two remaining heaters could not reliably support kitchen and laundry operations if either leaking unit failed, creating a near-term operational risk for the jail. Commissioner Couts moved to amend the capital projects budget; the board suspended the rules to take the measure up on second reading immediately and approved the amendment on a recorded vote.
Why it matters: failing mechanical equipment in a detention facility can produce operational and safety concerns; the sheriff’s office reported the replacements were needed promptly to maintain jail services. The commission treated the purchase as an immediate capital priority and approved funding from the capital projects fund.
