The Granite Falls City Council on May 7 voted to increase its annual contribution to the Granite Falls Historical Society to $1,500, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2025, and approved a $29,541 change order for the citywide 2025 crack‑sealing project.
Councilmember Straughn moved the historical society funding increase; Councilmember Glenn seconded and the motion carried. Councilmember Griggs moved approval of Change Order #1 to the crack‑sealing contract; Councilmember FitzGerald seconded and the motion carried. City Manager Brent Kirk was authorized to sign the change order.
The council also approved the consent agenda, which included approval of minutes from Feb. 19 and Mar. 5, 2025; claims checks #415202–415245 totaling $384,857.17; and payroll/ EFTs for two pay periods (one period totaling $82,956.93 and another totaling $154,771.30). The motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Councilmember Glenn and carried.
Deputy City Manager Jeff Balentine presented an update on the passport office and on April 2025 financial performance (the minutes record an update but do not provide additional figures). Public Works Director Charles White noted Waste Management has offered to host a facility tour. Consultant Police Chief Tom Dalton summarized recent police calls in his report to the council.
The actions taken at the meeting are administrative approvals and contract authorization; there was no recorded vote tally by individual councilmember in the minutes, only that motions carried. The City Manager will implement the approved change order and the increased annual allocation to the historical society.
