Sabrina, the city's finance officer, told the council the contractor had implemented a 4% increase to the rate the city pays and recommended passing along a 1% increase to residents as a measured response that would avoid larger, less frequent rate jumps. She estimated the increase would amount to roughly 30¢ per household and about 22¢ for seniors.
Council member Terry moved to adopt the 1% increase; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote. Sabrina said the recommendation aimed to smooth revenue needs and avoid the larger multi‑year increases the city had implemented in the past.
