CASA of the Heartland asks Leitchfield for $3,000 to recruit volunteers

Michelle Kale, executive director of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of the Heartland, addressed the council requesting inclusion in the city's upcoming budget.
Kale said CASA served 67 children in Grayson County in 2025, including 30 new cases, and that 28 cases closed to permanency during the year. She said it costs about $2,100 a year to provide advocacy for one child and that CASA had an estimated local investment of about $142,000 in 2025 based on children served. Kale told the council the local CASA office had eight children on its waitlist and asked the City to include $3,000 in the next budget cycle to bolster volunteer recruitment specifically in Leitchfield.
Council members discussed where budget decisions would be considered and noted the budget committee would review funding requests. Kale also invited councilors to CASA's upcoming Grayson County pinwheel planting on April 2 at the Center on Main to mark Child Abuse Prevention Month.
