A Forest Service representative told the Board that small‑diameter timber is typically harder to market and can act as ladder fuels that carry fire into crowns; removing that material and salvaging beetle‑killed trees is part of forest health and wildfire mitigation. Commissioners and presenters framed the proposal as supporting forest restoration and tribal programs, and the Board said it would consider the request and likely make a decision the following day.
No formal county action was taken at the workshop.
