District moves PSSA math to accommodate NFL draft; officials cite safety and transportation

In response to the NFL draft coming to Pittsburgh, the district said it will run asynchronous operations and move the math PSSA to the first week of the draft with permission from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to reduce transportation and safety disruption.
Director Trumbull asked how the NFL draft will affect district operations and schedules.
Dr. Walters said the district communicated plans for asynchronous operations for the draft window and described accommodations for selected special education students with IEPs and 504 plans. He said the district received permission from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to move the two‑day math PSSA to the first week of the draft because of expected visitor volumes and transportation disruptions. "We got permission from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to make that switch to accommodate... between 500,700 visitors to our city and really, changing transportation patterns and ability to travel," Dr. Walters said, adding the decision was driven by safety and transportation needs.
The board recorded the procedural change and information; no policy vote or other formal action was taken at the agenda review.
