Jen (speaker 1) described two offers the tree warden raised: one that depends on a grant to plant a few trees in the high-school parking area to create future canopy and reduce heat from the asphalt, and another the warden would fund from a donation to plant along the Village School access road. Jen said the district would welcome the plantings but must commit to watering and ongoing care.
Committee members expressed concern that custodians or the maintenance contractor might view watering as outside their scope under existing contracts. Mike (speaker 2) said he and John had discussed the issue and that job descriptions and the contract should be reviewed to determine responsibility. The group explored practical low-cost options for irrigation, including watering bags and a portable 275-gallon refurbished tank (the example discussed is a used tank listed at about $170) that could be moved in a pickup for seasonal watering.
Henry (speaker 3) and others suggested clarifying the scope of work in current maintenance contracts and potentially involving Park and Rec, although several members said Park and Rec likely would not assume watering responsibilities under its existing MOU. The committee agreed to obtain job descriptions, confirm the scope of custodial/maintenance contracts, and report back to the tree warden once they determine whether the district can reliably provide post-planting care.
