Sheriff Sean Golden says MedStar EMS cut response times, outlines expansion plans

Golden said that when the county had longer response times ‘‘over 18 minutes and 10 seconds’’—ranking 19th of 21 counties—those times have been driven down and that the program now shows improved county comparisons. He stated the county logged ‘‘over 10,000 calls for service’’ and cited a "5 minute and 22 second response time." Golden said the county will continue to expand MedStar into 2026 and 2027 and invest in better communications systems, radios and technology for first responders.
The sheriff framed the improvements as a result of county investment and partnerships with volunteers, and said the county will continue to monitor response metrics and pursue expansion. No formal budget vote was taken at the ceremony; Golden described performance data and future plans as part of his remarks rather than presenting a formal funding measure.
