Christian County fills senior-board vacancy and names three to planning and zoning commission

The Christian County Commission approved two sets of appointments during its meeting, selecting a replacement for the senior citizen service fund board and filling three vacancies on the planning and zoning commission.

Commissioner Williams moved to appoint Linda Daugherty to replace Liz Massengel on the senior citizen service fund board after Massengel stepped down midterm. Commissioner (speaker 3) seconded the motion and the commission approved it by voice vote. Commissioner Williams told the commission she had interviewed Daugherty and said, “I think she'll be a great fit. She's really excited to serve on that.” The commission chair added, “I've known Linda for a long time, and she's a tremendous lady.”

For the planning and zoning commission, staff collected six applications for three openings. Commissioners privately marked ballots and handed them to staff member Maddie to check for ties. The commission moved to appoint Morgan Neal, Valerie Carr and Michael White; the motion carried on a voice vote. Commissioners praised the depth of applicants and encouraged those not selected to reapply, saying the volunteer boards are “the lifeblood of the county” and valuable to county governance.

The commission noted that application lists and board terms are posted on the county website for public transparency and that interested residents may apply through the online process.

The action was recorded in the meeting minutes; the commission did not record a roll-call vote in the transcript beyond vocal “aye” responses.
