Fire Chief Taylor Stevenson presented specifications and a funding request March 17 for a new tanker-style apparatus that would add roughly 2,000 gallons of water capacity, improve safety features (shoulder belts, airbags, ABS) and increase drivability for volunteers.
Stevenson told the board the vehicle's current total cost estimate is "just under $600,000" including onboard equipment; the department expects to request about $152,000–$153,000 from the town’s equipment reserve to complete the purchase and rely on the department's reserve balance for the rest. He said the truck doubles on-board water capacity and is more maneuverable for local roads and camp access.
Board members asked about timing, reserve balances and contingency plans; staff said the reserve projection for July showed adequate funds and that accessories could be charged to an equipment reserve if needed. The board supported including a warrant article draft and will finalize the funding amount and language at the next review meeting.
No final appropriation vote occurred at this meeting; the item will be placed on a future warrant for final approval.
