The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors voted to adopt Resolution 2026-5, which encourages and supports development of an Angler's Bay Trail segment and authorizes the county to provide local-match funds and to assume responsibility for maintenance for not less than 20 years after completion.
A staff member read the resolution, which describes the proposed trail beginning at the north end of the Jones Pasture Trail and extending two miles to connect with a rural bicycle route and the wider Great Lakes trail system. A presenter who spoke about the project said the proposal has been discussed for roughly 20 years and the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation has set aside $112,000 to support improvements. "We're looking at 450,000 for this grant," the presenter said when describing expected grant funding.
Board members asked whether the county could be compelled to pay maintenance if the county were low on funding; a staff member responded that the contract language appears to make that an obligation. Supervisors also discussed materials: one member asked whether the surface would be paving, and the answer given was concrete, with the presenter noting higher up-front cost but lower long-term maintenance.
A motion to adopt the resolution was moved and seconded and carried on a recorded voice vote. The resolution directs county support for grant applications and commits the county to provide local matching funds and maintenance as stated in the resolution.
The board approved the resolution with no amendments recorded at the meeting.
