The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County approved a resolution Aug. 5 to reduce the Planning & Zoning Board from seven members to five, a change the county attorney said will be handled short‑term by a resolution and long‑term through an ordinance amendment.
Commissioner Jason Frost moved to reduce the board’s membership; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded. Commissioners Timothy Biddle and Damon Hoyte registered opposition, and Chairman Charles Coffey cast the tie‑breaking vote in favor, allowing the measure to pass.
The board discussed implementation timing and confirmed Planning & Zoning terms run four years; commissioners said vacancies and natural expirations will be used to reach the five‑member composition rather than immediately removing seated members. The county attorney advised that amending the zoning ordinance would be the permanent fix; the resolution reduces membership procedurally and will be recorded in the minutes.
A member of the public, Latrese Brown, said she had submitted an application and expressed interest in serving on the Planning & Zoning Board. Commissioners thanked her for volunteering and said all applications would be retained for future openings.
