Delaware County hires Edge AI to code CCTV footage to prioritize infrastructure maintenance

The Delaware County Board of Commissioners on March 23 approved Resolution 26‑199, authorizing a service agreement with Edge AI for AI coding and transmission of the county's existing CCTV footage to help prioritize repairs on aging infrastructure.
Stephanie Mag, director of environmental services, told commissioners the county has countless videos that have never been coded and that AI will let the department identify assets needing operations and maintenance much faster. "We're really excited to see what the information's gonna look like when we get it back. I guess it's, like, maybe 2 to 4 week process," Mag said. She added that the effort would have taken years of staff time without automated coding.
Why it matters: County staff said the project will accelerate detection of deteriorating infrastructure and allow limited maintenance funds to be targeted more efficiently. Commissioners framed the contract as a practical application of AI for operations rather than a surveillance expansion.
Board action: After brief discussion, the board voted to approve the agreement; the clerk recorded aye votes from Commissioners Benton, Lewis and Merrill.
Next steps: Staff will prioritize coding of older infrastructure footage and return results to the department for repair planning; the county did not provide a contract dollar amount in the meeting discussion.
The board approved the measure and moved on to the next item.
