Board approves Cummins management contract, three construction change orders and EverDriven student-transport contract

The Washington Unified School District board on Aug. 28 approved multiple facilities and service contracts, including an independent project management agreement for the Measure Z performing-arts center, final change orders and notices of completion for two site-improvement projects, and a contract to provide transportation for certain students with individualized education programs.

Measure Z performing arts center: Chief Business Officer Monique Stoball presented a recommendation to approve an independent consulting agreement with Cummins (selected following an RFP issued March 14 and proposals received April 10). Staff said Cummins was chosen for its performing-arts construction and project-management experience. Trustees asked whether the district would pursue private partners during design and were told that community engagement and fundraising would be explored once an architect is engaged. Trustee Wong moved and Clerk Castro seconded the motion; the board approved by voice vote.

Yolo High School site improvements: Facilities staff described ADA upgrades to D wing (a braided ramp to avoid a lift), upgraded restrooms to ADA standards, re-asphalting of the north parking lot and added accessible parking. Clerk Castro moved to accept the final change order and notice of completion; Trustee Hunt seconded and the board approved.

Southport asphalt project: Staff reported repaving the play area (about 41,000 sq ft), new base rock and regrading, parking-lot slurry and striping (about 40,000 sq ft). Utilities encountered during removal reduced overall cost; staff said the final change order shows a $128,000 cost savings made up of approximately $100,000 in allowances and a $28,000 credit related to tree removal. Trustee Wong moved, Trustee Hunt seconded; the board approved.

Student transportation (EverDriven Technologies LLC): Assistant Superintendent Autry Streak and Director Carla Salvo presented a contract with EverDriven to provide transportation for students placed by IEP in nonpublic schools that do not provide transport. Staff said the contract would affect about 10 students. Vice President Coffey moved and Trustee Wong seconded; the motion passed by voice vote.
