Board recognizes Read Aloud volunteers who distribute books to county students

The board honored Read Aloud volunteers from five elementary schools and one middle school; JR Davis, local Read Aloud chapter president, presented certificates and gift cards to school coordinators.
At the March 10 meeting the Fayette County Board of Education recognized volunteers with the county’s Read Aloud chapter for their work getting books to children.
Miss Dooley introduced the program and said Read Aloud has operated in Fayette County for about 14 years. She introduced JR Davis as the current Read Aloud chapter president; Davis described the chapter’s volunteer coordinators and read the names of recipients from five elementary schools and one middle school who would receive certificates and small gift cards.
"We really just wanted to take a few minutes here to show our appreciation for these people that have their boots on the ground," Davis said, and the board invited the volunteers to take a group photo in the lobby after names were read.
The recognitions highlighted ongoing community volunteer support for early childhood literacy in the county.
