The Village of Maywood Board of Trustees on April 20 voted to decline passing a City of Chicago-proposed 1.1% water rate increase to village water customers, effective June 1, 2021.
Village Manager Willie Norfleet Jr. presented the item and told the board the village has not raised water rates since January 2015. Trustee A. Sanchez moved to approve the recommendation not to pass the increase and Trustee N. Booker seconded; the motion carried with Mayor Edwenna Perkins and Trustees I. Brandon, M. Jones, A. Sanchez, K. Wellington and N. Booker voting Aye and Trustee M. Lightford absent.
Board members did not record further conditions or follow-up directives tied to the vote in the meeting minutes. The action leaves existing Maywood water-user rates unchanged as of the board's April 20 vote; the village indicated it may revisit rates and related water-system financials in future budget or rate studies.
