Parent urges board to allow student to remain at Chico Junior High after discipline

During public comment on the consent calendar, Amanda Travis told the board her sixth-grade child—who attends Chico Junior High and has a learning disability—had made mistakes the family and clinicians are addressing. She asked the board to reconsider the disciplinary outcome so the student can remain at the school where staff and teachers are familiar with the child and supportive of her return.
"She is currently seeking therapy in anger management... she is very, very apologetic," Travis said. She said the student and family are working with doctors and behavior therapists and asked the board to allow the child to continue at the school where "the teachers and the staff love her very much." The board president acknowledged the difficulty of such appeals and noted the district would review the appeals process and next steps.
