The Chico Unified School District board reviewed several finance items on June 25 tied to the 2025–26 fiscal year, including the district’s original budget, reserves disclosure and the Education Protection Account (EPA).
Staff noted a pending state budget deal and potential trailer bills that may affect K–12 funding. "I did see today that the head of the senate and head of the assembly did strike a deal with the governor… related to housing that's due by June 30," a staff speaker said, noting specifics were not yet available and that any resulting legislative changes could lead to future budget adjustments.
The board voted to change the district’s additional reserve threshold (a local policy change to take effect July 1) after a prior public hearing that drew no comment. The board also approved tracking and spending protocols for the Education Protection Account; staff emphasized EPA dollars are tracked separately but counted as unrestricted in district accounting, and the board approved the EPA item by unanimous vote.
