The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District Board of Education voted Aug. 27 to award the Mira Leste Intermediate Swimming Pool Improvement Project to California Commercial Pools Inc.
District staff told trustees that the board had rejected the first round of bids in June after finding material defects. After a prequalification process and a new public solicitation in July and August, staff received two bids on Aug. 12 and recommended the California Commercial Pools bid, which they said was about $500,000 less than the earlier bids and aligned with an engineered estimate from two years earlier.
Staff described a phased construction plan to minimize disruption: much of the locker‑room work will be scheduled during breaks and weekends, and the pool site is already fenced. Staff estimated roughly a week to finalize contract documents, hoped for a September groundbreaking and expected mid‑February completion, subject to final contract terms.
The board approved the award by voice vote (4–0).
