The McAllen Independent School District board on Monday approved several routine and administrative items by unanimous vote.
Trustees adopted a proclamation designating the week of April 2026 as Gifted & Talented Awareness Week and invited students and staff for a photo. The board approved the consent agenda and later approved minutes from its February 24 special and regular meetings.
Administration asked the board to correct a typographical error in the contract term for RFP 2026-1006 (fully insured dental plan). The contract had mistakenly listed an end date of Dec. 31, 2029; staff asked to correct it to Dec. 31, 2028. A motion to correct the terms passed 6–0.
The board approved a February 2026 budget amendment for fiscal year 25–26; administration described the amendment as a relatively small item, approximately $125,628. Trustees received an informational report about a Community Development Block Grant award for a lighting and parking project at Brown Middle School; Ruben Treviño, executive director for facilities and maintenance and operations, said phase 2 should be completed by the end of the summer.
The board recessed into closed session under Texas Government Code sections 551.071, 551.072, 551.074, 551.076 and 551.089 and later returned to approve human resources recommendations for the 2025–26 school year; trustees voted 6–0 to approve the submitted recommendations.
The meeting concluded with announcements of upcoming workshops and regular meetings and an adjournment at 6:34 p.m.
