Summary
The D.C. Zoning Commission voted to set down George Washington University’s PUD modification for hearing, granted a two‑year PUD time extension, and unanimously denied motions for reconsideration and rehearing on a separate map amendment. Commissioners set deadlines for draft orders and public comment windows.
The D.C. Zoning Commission on March 2 set down a requested modification by George Washington University for a public hearing, approved a two‑year time extension on a consolidated planned unit development (PUD) and related map amendment, and denied motions for reconsideration and rehearing on a separate map amendment.
Office of Planning development review specialist Michael Jerkovich told the commission that "OP recommends commission set down the requested modification with hearing" for zoning case 87‑23A at 2001 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, saying the change would not increase the site's approved density or height and that the request was "not inconsistent with the comprehensive plan" while asking the applicant to provide more detail on proposed university uses prior to the hearing. Commissioner Stidham moved to set the matter down and Vice Chair Miller seconded; a roll call produced three affirmative votes with one recusal and one commissioner absent, and the commission set the case down as a contested case.
On a separate agenda item, the commission approved a two‑year time extension for consolidated PUD case 21‑18A (Dance Loft Ventures LLC) to begin construction by Feb. 10, 2028. Staff reported the applicant filed the building permit on Aug. 25, 2023, satisfying an earlier filing condition, and the Office of Planning recommended approval; the commission approved final action by roll call with four votes in favor and one commissioner not voting. The commission asked the applicant to provide a draft order within two weeks.
The body also addressed two motions for reconsideration and rehearing filed in zoning case 23‑02 (an Office of Planning map amendment at Square 175). Chair Anthony Hood and multiple commissioners said the points raised had been considered in prior proceedings. Commissioner Wright moved to deny the motions and Vice Chair Miller seconded; the commission voted unanimously to deny reconsideration and rehearing.
Chair Hood closed each item by identifying procedural next steps — requests for draft orders, deadlines for written submissions and scheduling future consideration. The commission adjourned after completing the agenda.
