Allendale officials discuss PFAS treatment, Veolia role and ongoing Well 17 and Avalon litigation

Mayor Amy Wazinski said Allendale has already acted on PFAS detection and treatment and described the borough as "ahead of the curve." "We are actually ahead of the curve because we jumped on the PFAS, before. Now it's become more of a household name," she said.
A council member said temporary treatment is in place on four of the five wells within the borough and recommended inviting Veolia to discuss permanent-treatment technologies and costs — naming granular activated carbon and resins as options to consider. The council said Veolia has committed to remove PFAS and other contaminants and that the borough will look for the best forum to present treatment options to residents.
The borough attorney provided legal updates: plaintiffs' reply in the Well 17 litigation is anticipated and an oral argument will be scheduled within a few weeks; the Avalon litigation briefing schedule was revised with an appellate-division filing now due in mid-January. Officials said the matters are intertwined with affordable-housing and neighboring-sewer issues and require coordinated counsel work.
Why it matters: PFAS treatment affects drinking-water safety and potential capital and operating costs; pending litigation (Well 17, Avalon, Saddle River sewer matters) may influence resource allocation and town obligations.
