A resident who gave 711 15th Street as an address asked the council to install a stop sign at the corner of New York Avenue and 15th Street, describing a hazardous sightline where children come down a sloped bike path and drivers turning left cannot see them.
"These kids are all coming down the bike path... the bike path slopes, there's really no slowing down," the resident said, urging the council to act to prevent an accident. Council members described parked cars and overhanging trees that reduce visibility at the corner.
The city engineer said the request "is warranted" and indicated staff will place the item on the next agenda for council consideration. Council discussion suggested the council intends to review sightline and traffic controls at the location before making a formal installation decision.
