Resident urges mobile‑friendly Absecon website, offers interpreter for movie nights

During the public comment period Allison Maxfield of 311 East Wyoming Ave. told the council the city's events calendar is difficult to use on mobile phones and recommended converting the site to be mobile friendly so more residents—especially younger people and those who rely on phones—can find events.
"Everyone uses their phones nowadays," Maxfield said, and noted that some event listings appear only on separate nonprofit pages rather than the city site. She offered a sign‑language interpreter for the film‑in‑the‑park program and asked the city to consider adding interpretation for accessibility.
Council members acknowledged long‑standing website issues and said they are working to upgrade the site. The presiding officer said website work is "extremely expensive" and that the city's tight budget this year has constrained progress, but staff and the new administrator are actively pursuing improvements. Officials pointed to other channels—community affairs Facebook pages and the police department's social pages—that currently carry event information while the city works on the site upgrade.
Separately, council members provided an update on the homeless task force, noting the group is small by design but has been expanding membership and that recent outreach events at Church By The Bay provided food, clothing and social services to residents in need.
