The Wildwood Crest governing body discussed upcoming infrastructure work and capital priorities at its meeting, with officials confirming a near-term start to New Jersey Avenue pre-infrastructure work and debating how to sequence the borough’s larger projects.
Chair (S1) said construction activity for New Jersey Avenue’s sanitary-sewer and water-utility work is scheduled to begin Thursday and that the borough’s engineering team will have an on-site inspector to coordinate notifications to businesses and the public. The chair told the meeting the work will begin at the southern end and proceed north and that the project could continue through the spring.
A resident asked how the borough will notify business owners and whether signage will keep businesses accessible; Chair (S1) said engineering will communicate with neighbors and post signage so businesses remain open during work. "We'll take care of that," the chair said when asked about outreach.
Commissioners raised questions about the borough-hall (Burl Hall) renovation plans that are currently on the conference table. One commissioner described the drawings as a “Cadillac version” and suggested the plans likely need to be scaled back or phased to match available funding and priorities. Another commissioner said the incoming board will have to decide whether to put the municipal building project ahead of the fishing-pier project, noting the pier could add roughly $4 million to the borough’s obligations if the pending grant is awarded.
Chair (S1) and others said the Burl Hall plans may be revised after department-head review and that phasing is a likely path if costs remain high. The chair also said the borough had applied for an additional $400,000 toward the fishing pier; if awarded the borough would have approximately $4,000,000 toward a project estimated at $5–$5.5 million, pending county open-space confirmation.
The council approved an engineer work order not to exceed $200,000 for Park Boulevard sanitary-sewer design and construction-phase services tied to an NJIB application. The meeting record shows follow-up tasks for engineering to coordinate business notifications and that project funding and timelines remain contingent on grant and county approvals.
The council’s next meeting was scheduled for Dec. 18 at 9:30 a.m.
