Wildwood Crest adopts three ordinances on fire prevention, beach-box rentals and recreation fees; approves grants and routine resolutions

The Wildwood Crest governing body voted to adopt three ordinances and to approve multiple resolutions at its meeting.

Ordinances approved on second and final reading were: Ordinance 14-70, which amends chapter 35 (fire prevention) to update smoke-detector and carbon-monoxide alarm compliance, additional inspections and fees; Ordinance 14-71, which amends chapter 32a to establish beach-box rental fees; and Ordinance 14-72, which updates Recreation Commission rates and fees. Each ordinance was placed on second reading, a public hearing was opened and no members of the public spoke; the hearings were closed and the ordinances were adopted unanimously.

In other business, the council adopted a resolution to accept a $2,100 “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety for 12/05/2025–01/01/2026 and authorized the chief financial officer to pay flat-rate law-enforcement hours. The council also approved routine financial actions including refunds for overpayments payable to Cindy Velal Pando and to Totality, a tax cancellation and refund for a totally disabled veteran, and authorization to pay all properly submitted bills.

The council approved a shared-services agreement with Cape May County for work on the Heather Road fishing pier project; during roll call one member registered an abstention. It also approved an engineer work order for sanitary-sewer improvements tied to a New Jersey Infrastructure Bank (NJIB) application for Park Boulevard Phase 1, not to exceed $200,000, and authorized an amendment to the 2025 municipal budget to reflect additional funding.

Several grant- and program-related resolutions were adopted: naming a Small Cities Program fair-housing officer, approving a public-facilities grant-management plan, authorizing a grant application submission, and adopting the state model citizen participation plan for the DCA Small Cities Program. The council also passed a resolution opposing inclusion of new offshore oil-and-gas leasing off the New Jersey coast in the federal 11th National Outer Continental Shelf leasing program.

The council moved to an executive session to discuss personnel, upcoming appointments and an administrator employment matter and recessed for five minutes before closing the public portion of the meeting.

Votes and formal actions recorded in the meeting minutes are reflected in the meeting’s actions log; where a roll-call vote showed individual votes the minutes recorded ‘Mister Schiff,’ ‘Mister Franco’ and ‘Mister Cabrera’ as voting yes except where an abstention was noted on the shared-services item.
