Members of the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission discussed that the body has received Certified Local Government (CLG) status and asked whether the commission should remove the label “advisory” from website listings and public descriptions.
Speaker 9 proposed removing the advisory label so the commission’s role is accurately reflected. Mark Healy, head of the planning and zoning department (speaker 11), advised that while staff can look into updating public materials, formally changing ordinance language or statutory references would likely require council action and an ordinance amendment. He offered to research the steps needed and report back to the commission.
Commissioners agreed to explore updating website language and to ask staff to examine whether any formal council action is necessary to change official designations. The item will be returned to staff for follow-up and for potential recommendation to council if a formal change is required.
