The mayor said the borough received $419,000 from the New Jersey Department of Transportation for work on Union Avenue, $50,000 from a Union County infrastructure grant, $35,000 from the Clean Communities program, $20,000 from the Kids Recreation Trust Fund and other smaller grants and awards supporting recycling, opioid remediation and education programs.
"These funds allowed us to finish and move forward with major projects while keeping costs down to taxpayers," Mayor Morgan said, listing road paving, sidewalk replacement, wastewater treatment plant upgrades including a new automation system, and replacement of the community pool bridge among completed or planned projects.
The mayor also described emergency storm response after severe thunderstorms on July 14, 2025, noting work ranging from stream cleaning to emergency storm repairs on Deerfield Road and other neighborhoods and the borough's effort to secure compliance with New Jersey DEP MS4 permit requirements through engineering and GIS services.
The meeting included a recognition of promotions and retirements in the police department and Department of Public Works, and announced appointments to municipal positions and boards (including the municipal planner, auditors, municipal prosecutor, and municipal physician) that will be posted with the consent agenda items approved at the meeting.
The meeting closed the mayor's remarks with thanks to staff, volunteers and New Providence residents and a call to continued community service in 2026.
