Banning Unified board adopts agenda, receives closed-session briefing and adjourns

The Banning Unified School District Board of Trustees met in a special session March 28, 2026. The board adopted the posted agenda by a 4-0 vote and subsequently went into closed session, returning midday and adjourning at 12:12 p.m.

Clerk Chapman opened the meeting at 9:04 a.m., noted that the board was recording or broadcasting the session, and called roll. The board recited the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Mister Davis at the board’s request. During the agenda-adoption item a motion and second were made and the clerk recorded the vote as 4-0 in favor of adopting the agenda as posted.

The clerk asked whether any community comments had been received; none were recorded on the public record and the board then recessed for closed-session deliberations at 9:06 a.m. The meeting reconvened at about 12:11 p.m.; Clerk Chapman conducted a post-session roll call, noting Trustee Martinez Sonora was not present while other members were marked present.

Under Item 3.1 the clerk asked Clerk Trautman to share the closed-session report. On the public record the board stated that, in closed session under Item 2.1, it "received information." No further details of the closed-session discussion were disclosed during the open meeting.

A trustee moved to adjourn the special meeting; Trustee Novellis seconded. The clerk called the vote and the motion to adjourn passed 4-0. The meeting was adjourned at 12:12 p.m.

Because the only public disclosure about closed session was that the board "received information," there are no additional substantive actions or policy items recorded in the public portion of the meeting.
