Sheriff's office reports seizures of about 2,000 kratom packets in county enforcement sweep

A committee member introduced Jason to provide the update. Jason said investigators working for the sheriff’s office visited every gas station in the county and inspected smoke shops and similar retailers for compliance with the county ordinance prohibiting kratom sales. "I think it was, 6 to 8 shops, seized approximately 2,000 packets, totaling about $48,000 worth," Jason said. He added that shops which had previously not received warnings were given an additional warning, while shops that had received warnings earlier had product seized and will receive citations.
Jason said stores receiving citations will have to defend the cases in justice court. The update on the sweep was given without detailed store-by-store listings or individual case outcomes recorded in the meeting minutes.
Board members thanked Jason and noted the action satisfied concerns raised in prior correspondence to the board.
