Canton staff propose Tetra Tech contract for water system assessment; auction list of surplus assets presented

City staff asked the council to consider a consulting agreement with Tetra Tech to perform a risk and resilience assessment and update the emergency response plan for Canton’s water system.
Miss Watson (speaker 13) said the work is required every five years under the America's Water Infrastructure Act and will evaluate system assets (tanks, pipes), identify threats (including cybersecurity and supply-chain risks) and produce an emergency response plan describing how the city would respond if those risks materialize. Watson said the firm proposed a roughly four-month schedule and offered to begin in late April with the report completed by late August.
In a separate item, Mister Ingram (speaker 14) presented the annual list of assets proposed for disposal at a government auction scheduled for April 25 at the Cherokee County Fairgrounds. The list includes 11 vehicles, a skid steer, a golf cart and several other items; Ingram said departments submitted items that have reached scheduled life or are in disrepair. Staff will return April 2 with a final list for council approval.
Council members asked implementation and timeline questions for Tetra Tech’s scope and whether department assets could be disposed of sooner; staff said they will bring a contract and the final auction list back at the next meeting.
