SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Township Committee on Monday advanced two ordinances on first reading and approved a package of routine resolutions and payroll at its regular meeting.
Ordinance 20-26-01, read by the clerk as a first reading, would amend the township code to create a police‑department position designated as an Office of Emergency Management (OEM) liaison officer tasked with assisting OEM operations and associated paperwork. The ordinance was publicized in the local source on 01/22/2026 as read at the meeting and set for final hearing on Feb. 10, 2026. The committee voted to advance the ordinance.
The committee also advanced Ordinance 20-26-02 on first reading. That ordinance, described during discussion as establishing salary ranges and compensation levels for certain township positions, drew a brief exchange about the stipend for township committee members; one member said they intend to propose increasing that stipend at a future meeting. The ordinance was scheduled for a final hearing on Feb. 10, 2026 as stated during the meeting.
Both ordinances were advanced by affirmative votes during the meeting. The clerk called members for the roll during each motion and the committee recorded assent to move the ordinances to final hearing.
On the consent agenda, the committee approved Resolutions 20-26-48 through 20-26-59 as a block, including acceptance of Scott Horowitz’s resignation from the rent leveling board effective Jan. 2, 2026. The committee also approved a request from Jonathan Dayton High School for overflow parking at Ruby Field for graduation on June 18 at 6 p.m.
In financial business, the committee voted to adopt payroll and invoices for the period Dec. 17, 2025 through Jan. 13, 2026 in the amount of $2,482,115.00.
During the meeting the clerk read a resolution authorizing the township to enter a closed executive session to discuss attorney‑client privileged matters and personnel; the committee entered that executive session later in the evening.
The meeting record includes the committee’s regular announcements and correspondence, including a reported Union County Utility Authority tipping fee of $92.91 per ton for 2026 and an RVSA assessment figure read into the record.
