Romeoville trustees approve consent agenda, advance several development and service measures

Romeoville trustees unanimously approved the meeting’s consent agenda Wednesday, endorsing multiple ordinances and resolutions that continue the village’s residential tax rebate, declare surplus TIF funds, authorize infrastructure contracts and update code sections.
The board approved a continuation of the residential property tax rebate program that will provide an $80 refund to owner-occupied households, up from $75 last year; applications will be accepted Sept. 2–Dec. 1 via an online form on the village website. The board also declared the 30% surplus distribution for the Marquette TIF from the 2023 levy year, noting total taxes collected of $3,564,759 and a 30% distribution amount of $1,069,428 to other taxing bodies.
Other consent items included: awarding a contract to Kim Construction for the 2025 Basin 13 sanitary sewer manhole rehabilitation program; waiving bids and authorizing purchases of certain vehicles and equipment listed in the packet; and approval of text amendments and variances that staff and the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended. The board’s motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Trustee Griffin, seconded by Trustee Chavez, and carried on a roll call vote with the ayes recorded as the motion passed.
Why it matters: the consent agenda bundles routine but consequential actions for infrastructure, public safety and economic development. The sewer-manhole contract is part of the village’s ongoing effort to reduce inflow and infiltration in industrial-park basins; the tax rebate is a modest direct payment to homeowners; and the TIF surplus distribution fulfills an intergovernmental agreement.
Officials’ remarks and next steps: Finance staff noted the rebate increase and the TIF distribution figures; staff said contract work and ordinance amendments will proceed per the usual procurement and implementation schedules. Several items that required public hearings (including the Normanton Road TIF amendment) were discussed separately during the evening. The board concluded the formal business portion of the meeting and then moved into community reports and trustee remarks.
