Summary
The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp’s LINC program places 25 juniors and 25 seniors in an on-site Amcor classroom and warehouse for hands-on manufacturing and logistics training, with Amcor offering a direct hiring relationship for interested graduates.
The LINC program, a partnership between the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp and packaging company Amcor, places high school juniors and seniors in an on-site classroom at Amcor where they receive hands-on instruction and lab experience while completing their diplomas, a program presenter said.
"Through LINC, students can jump start careers in manufacturing and logistics while still earning their high school diploma," the presenter said, describing a pathway from school to work that the company will support after students complete the program. The presenter added that Amcor "will establish a working relationship with our graduates who are interested in becoming future employees, creating a direct pathway from high school to career."
Students and program staff described how the program operates inside Amcor’s warehouse. "We actually work with supply chain and logistics, and, we have 25 juniors, 25 seniors," a presenter said, noting that participants come to the facility each day for real-world experience. Students said the arrangement lets them mix with peers from other schools and start working during their junior year. "It's an easy way to start off getting on your feet right out of high school, I feel like," one student said.
Program staff highlighted employer benefits and local retention. A presenter said the partnership builds relationships "not only with the EVSE in every school, but we're building relationship with the kids that are here" and argued early exposure to local career options helps keep young people in Evansville.
Staff described specific workplace-readiness elements: visits from a bank to discuss saving, expectations about calling in for shifts and general responsibility on the shop floor, and opportunities to shadow departments. One presenter reported that "we have 2 guys that are in maintenance now because they got to shadow the maintenance department," citing direct placement outcomes after program participation.
Students described a range of job pathways opened by LINC, including maintenance, technical roles and quality assurance. "Getting a paycheck, I mean, it's life changing in my opinion," a student said, framing the program’s immediate economic impact for participants.
The program presenter said LINC seeks to provide both workforce skills and industry connections that can lead to employment at Amcor for graduates who pursue those opportunities. No formal vote or board action was recorded during this presentation.
