During public comment a resident from Saratoga who represents families in the Stillwater area urged the Mechanicville board to pursue a merger or closer collaboration to sustain girls lacrosse across youth, middle and high school levels.
The resident (Public commenter) said he spoke on behalf of several families and urged the boards and staff to "work with us and get this thing back and retry back again." He said sustaining girls programs at three levels would likely require a merger and help from adult volunteers and that he would "do whatever it takes" to persuade Stillwater to cooperate. The resident cautioned that football should be kept out of the girls-sports discussion: "Just keep football out of the conversation when we're talking about other sports," he said.
Board members and staff thanked the commenter for stepping forward and encouraged follow-up; one board member suggested continued coordination between coaches and families to assess participation levels and logistics. The resident offered to follow up with district staff and community leaders to explore timelines and recruiting.
What happens next: staff encouraged the resident to coordinate with district athletics and coaches; the board indicated it will monitor participation this season and consider options for sustaining programs before next year.
