Council’s legislative branch requests steady funding; clerk’s budget rises for voting‑system obligations

City Clerk Glenn Takahashi explained that the clerk’s FY27 request increased relative to the comparable two‑year baseline mostly because of obligations tied to city voting systems and higher temporary election‑worker costs; the clerk’s office flagged collective‑bargaining salary increases and minimum wage changes as drivers for some current expenses. City Auditor Troy Shimasaki presented an FY27 request just over $2.2 million with a small increase attributable to salary adjustments and subscriptions/lease increases.
Committee members expressed appreciation for departing clerk Glenn Takahashi, asked few technical questions and reserved further budget follow‑ups for supplemental materials. No formal votes were taken in the March 12 hearing.
