The revised plan makes NTID assignments count only as bonus credit so students without internet access would not be penalized; the board moved, seconded and approved the plan. A board member suggested providing printed NTID packets to families who lack reliable internet or power during snow days.
On personnel, the board approved an extracurricular hire (Melissa Jones as quiz/academic bowl coach at GCHS) and accepted resignations including Joe Frazier (head mini-Titan girls basketball coach) and Angela Snyder (supervisory classroom transportation aide, effective 03/19/2026).
Miss West presented the spring GATE (Gilmer Accountability Team for Excellence) review: student/teacher/principal interviews, walkthroughs, special education and finance reviews. The team plans summer work to add service-personnel and parent interviews, a consistent PLC note-taking protocol, rubrics for timely feedback and pathways for student leadership and college/career planning.
Dr. Minnick said the district received a four-day waiver for the 180-day requirement, returning the schedule to the original graduation date and end-of-year timeline. He also publicly thanked departing staff member Nick Cox for 14 years of service.
Why it matters: the NTID rule change and waiver reduce the risk of pushing the school year into June and protect students’ scheduled graduation; the GATE review identifies district improvement work for summer implementation.
