Trustee Quintero moved to approve Perez's appointment and Trustee Anderson seconded. Superintendent Dr. Kim LeBlanc Esparza described a comprehensive search with more than 40 applicants and said Perez will oversee student achievement, curriculum and instruction, special education, assessments, professional learning and other academic and student support services. "Tonight, we are pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Candace Perez as the new deputy superintendent," Dr. Kim said, noting Perez could not attend because she was leading a state conference.
Later in the meeting the board approved Perez's employment contract (term 04/01/2026–06/30/2028) with an annual salary of $335,625 paid in 12 monthly payments, a $350 monthly car allowance, and health benefits consistent with certificated employees. Both the appointment and the contract passed with unanimous trustee support (5‑0) and the student board member voting aye.
What happens next: Perez is scheduled to join the district leadership team beginning April 1; administration will finalize onboarding and report on organizational changes resulting from the consolidation of assistant superintendent roles.
