Assemblymember David Alvarez’s field representative announces Posada, college fair for National City

Katia Santivanes, the new field representative for Assemblymember David Alvarez, introduced herself to the National City Council and announced two upcoming community events in National City.
“My name is Katia Santivanes. I'm the new field representative at the office of the assembly member David Alvarez, and I got assigned to National City,” Santivanes said, noting she is “pleased to collaborate” with city leaders and assist with state-level issues.
She said the first event, a free family Posada, will take place Friday, December 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. “We're gonna give away tamales, champurrado, and kids activities, and also Santa will come to the event,” Santivanes said.
Santivanes also announced a college resources fair at Southwest High School that will provide free, bilingual financial aid application assistance and invite a range of universities to speak with students about how to apply.
Mayor Morrison responded with appreciation for the announcement. “Thank you very much and you had me at tamales in Chaparado,” the mayor said.
The mayor then noted the meeting would move to a closed session; no further public discussion of the events occurred at the council dais.
These community-focused events are meant to be free for families and to support local students with college application and financial aid navigation; Santivanes encouraged residents to attend and look for additional details on the office’s outreach.
