Franklin Pierce High DECA officers brief board on membership, events and fundraising

The Franklin Pierce High School DECA officer team presented to the board early in the meeting to outline the chapter's purpose, membership and events.
Dakari Valentine (DECA president, S5) opened with the chapter's goals: to prepare students for careers in hospitality, finance and marketing and to develop communication and leadership skills. Students reported current membership at about 45 and said officers are chosen by written responses, teacher recommendations, speeches and chapter votes.
Students described recent outreach (back-to-school night, club rush, classroom visits), an upcoming Thanksgiving food drive for feeder elementary schools, and conferences they will attend this year: the Fall Learning Conference (FLC), area competitions at Puyallup, the State Career Development Conference (SCDC) and the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Atlanta. The chapter also described a third annual homecoming tailgate (Oct. 17) that includes food sales and fundraising to lower competition costs for members.
Board members praised the students and adviser Jody Disney for their presentation and asked questions about fundraising and recruitment. Students said fundraising taught communication and outreach skills; officers described how DECA reduces financial barriers so more students can compete.
The board took a group photo with the students and thanked them for representing the district. No formal action was taken.
