Council members raised concerns about durability and cost. One member noted the solar-array flag could be fragile and prone to damage; a vendor representative said the star and bow products are UV coated and designed to last. "They last for decades," the vendor said of the bows they supplied elsewhere, noting a test piece had endured four years of sun exposure and still looked "brand new." Council also questioned whether some items should be reserved for later years to reduce immediate expense.
Staff clarified which items would be paid from the Community Redevelopment Area and which from the General Fund. To reduce cost, the council directed staff to remove Santa's sleigh and the American solar-array flag from the immediate purchase and to ask the vendor for a new quote that focuses on 24-inch pole bows and color-changing stars; staff will request physical samples for council review. The revised proposal is expected for the next CRA meeting or the March council meeting to allow ordering in time for July 4 if approved.
