Longwood honors Recovery Connections founder and two firefighters for lifesaving work

The Longwood City Commission used part of its Dec. 1 meeting to recognize local people and organizations. Commissioner Morgan presented George Margolis, president and CEO of Recovery Connections of Central Florida, as the city's Business Person of the Month for November 2025 and praised his work connecting people to recovery services.
Margolis told the commission Recovery Connections operates peer-support programs, sober-living placement and transportation services, and said the organization is funded through grants from Seminole and Orange counties, soon Brevard County, and Central Florida Cares, which receives state funding from the Florida Department of Children and Families. He said Recovery Connections served roughly 1,500 people in the previous year.
The commission also recognized two Longwood firefighters, Paramedic Louie Bruno and EMT Nomar Ramos, who delivered a baby in the back of a rescue vehicle while transporting the mother to a hospital on July 31. The fire department's chief described the delivery as an example of the department's emergency care and called the two providers forward for prehospital-delivery recognition.
Mayor Sackett and commissioners praised Recovery Connections for its regional recovery services and thanked public-safety personnel for lifesaving care in the community. The presentations were ceremonial; no formal policy changes were announced.
